Status of Cincy’s starting QB still unclear

It’s been five days since Zach Collaros was injured in Cincinnati’s loss to South Florida, and neither the quarterback nor the school seems certain of his availability for this weekend.

Collaros was still walking with the aid of crutches Tuesday and did not participate in team drills because of a bruised left knee. Instead, the quarterback threw on the sidelines before heading inside for more treatment due to inclement weather.

“With the pouring down rain, we got him into do rehab,” Butch Jones said. “We’ll probably know a little bit more Thursday. Each day he gets better.

“We got the good footwork in. He did good individual. Now it’s to see how much of the workload his leg can handle after today. We hit him pretty good with it. We’ll see how he responds tomorrow.”

If Collaros is unable to go, backups Chazz Anderson would get the start. Jones seemed ready to roll with whatever happens at the position.

“If he can go, great,” Jones said. “If he can’t, we’ll move on to Chazz.”
