Or, as Chris Rainey would text, time to leave, *****.
For the second time in the last three months, a highly-recruited Florida defensive back has left the football program, although this time it wasn’t of the player’s own volition. According to head coach Urban Meyer, safety Jonathan Dowling has been dismissed from the Gators. Of course, the reason given was the always ubiquitous “violation of unspecified team rules”.
A search of court records in Alachua and Manatee counties, the Orlando Sentinel writes, shows Dowling does not have a case more serious than a traffic violation.
Dowling was a four-star member of the Gators’ vaunted 2010 recruiting class and appeared in two games this season. Rivals.com had Dowling rated as the fifth-best safety in the country, although he will now apparently be taking his talents elsewhere.
