Tar Heels lose leading rusher to season-ending injury

Even when North Carolina wins, they can’t help but lose.

The Tar Heels’ season of player attrition continued into its third month Saturday as the team’s leading rushed went down with a season-ending injury.

In the second quarter of what turned out to be a 37-35 win over Florida State, running back Johnny White was tackled at the end of a 12-yard reception and suffered a broken collarbone in the process. He will miss the remainder of the season as a result of the injury, the school announced after the win.

Not only was White UNC’s leading rusher with 720 yards and tops in rushing touchdowns with seven, but he was also third in receptions (28) and fourth in receiving yardage (288). He was also the ACC’s leader in yards from scrimmage entering yesterday’s game.
