Ex-UGA QB Mettenberger reportedly favors LSU

Two months after being offered a scholarship by the school, it appears as though Zach Mettenberger might be leaning toward hooking up with LSU next season.

And, given the current state of the quarterback position in Baton Rouge, that would be a welcome signing regardless of the baggage the former Georgia quarterback would haul onto campus.

Speaking to the Shreveport Times, Mettenberger’s father didn’t say that his son has made a decision but, based on his love of a History Channel series, he thinks he knows which school might have the edge at the moment.

If I had to guess, at the top of his list would be LSU,” Bernie Mettenberger said Thursday. “That’s from my conversations with Zach. He’s never been down there to LSU, but his favorite show is ‘Swamp People.’ And he’s got a real close relationship with Les Miles.”

Mettenberger is at LSU today and will be at the school through the weekend on an official visit. He’s also visited Texas A&M.

Mettenberger is currently the starting QB for Butler Community College in Kansas, moving to the JUCO ranks after being dismissed from the UGA football program earlier this year. The sophomore’s dismissal came a month and a half following an arrest that would ultimately lead to his pleading guilty to two counts of sexual battery (layman’s terms: he grabbed himself a handful of boobs and butt).

In addition to LSU’s interest, Mettenberger was also offered a scholarship by Alabama last month. Other schools that have offered include Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Arizona, Cincinnati, Troy and Louisville.
