Stanford = best one-loss team in America

You don’t have to be Albert Einstein to realize that the Stanford Cardinal are good. Really good. In fact, all you need to do is watch them play.

Stanford’s 48-14 victory over Cal in the Big Game today was a show-stopper. In every aspect, the Cardinal dominated the Golden Bears, who have played their best football this season at Memorial Stadium. Remember, this is the very Cal team in the very same stadium who held Oregon to a season-low 15 points just one week ago.

Stanford matched that in a quarter and a half.

For Jeff Tedford‘s defense, trying to contain Andrew Luck was like trying to figure out the space-time continuum. With all the publicity around Cam Newton, LaMichael James and even Kellen Moore, somehow Luck’s brilliant performances have fallen on blind eyes this season. He may not win it, but at this point there is no reason Luck should not be in New York for the Heisman ceremony.

Of course, there are the four undefeated teams vying for the BCS National Championship, but Stanford is still in the Pac-10 and national title hunt. If Oregon somehow drops their final two games, Stanford’s case may be as good as anyone’s to book a trip to Glendale.

At least as good as LSU’s and Wisconsin’s.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out, either.
