Bring it on! TCU AD jumps on non-AQ horse, fires back at Gee

In the immortal words of TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte, “Anytime. Anyplace. Anywhere. Buckeyes against the Horned Frogs. Tee it up. Let’s go.”

In a day that has featured more “Oh, no you di’in’t!” moments than at any point in the season -- let alone from university presidents and AD’s -- TCU’s Del Conte is the latest to fire back at Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee, who, as you probably know by now, threw down a little smack talk earlier today in the direction of TCU and Boise State, claiming their schedules were filled with “Little Sisters of the Poor.”

(Writer’s note: I may disagree with the theory of Gee’s comments, but the one-liner itself was still pretty epic.)

A short while ago, Boise State president Bob Kustra released quite the statement of his own that, in short, told Gee to go suck a Buckeye.

But Del Conte, who appeared on ESPN Radio 103.3 Dallas, took a slightly different approach. “I sat back and just thought about our football program and our coach and realized that to start throwing stones at your house, they must be jealous,” Del Conte said. “We have a phenomenal football program. ... And someone now starts taking shots at TCU? That means we’ve arrived.”

Nice.

While Del Conte’s comments can be translated to “You just hatin’ cuz you jealous of me!”, they are still valid thoughts. TCU and Boise State matter in college football. The debate of their legitimacy has backed up internet forums and radio time slots for the better part of six months. Some of the highest commented posts on this very site have been a result of Boise State or TCU.

And in the spirit of the pot calling the kettle black, Del Conte also commented on OSU’s own “strength” of schedule. “When I start to look at their [Ohio State’s] nonconference schedule made up of the MAC schools -- that’d be Ohio, Eastern Michigan. I had no idea they were going out and testing themselves week in and week out.”

The idea that Ohio State has survived any sort of gauntlet this season is ridiculous. The Buckeye’s best competition this year was Wisconsin and Ohio State lost that game. Quite handily, too. TCU and Boise’s strength of schedule is no SEC and, yes, there are probably 10 teams who could go undefeated through the WAC, but for Gee to sit on his scarlet and gray throne and belittle two good teams by lobbying for his own is wrong.

Funny, but wrong.
