If there is anything that Randy Shannon did for Miami, he’s kept that program clean. Florida has had way more issues with arrests that Miami has had lately.

It’s a shame that he could not coach them to the big games because he is a class act.

First off, props to Randy Shannon for setting up the next coach for success — we have a locker room full of good, talented student-athletes. To the poster who insinuated Miami is full of felons, you may want to pull your head out of your *ss and take a second look.

While Miami doesn’t have their own on-campus stadium or palatial facilities, they are far from second-rate. I laugh anytime someone makes this argument, as it’s immediately obvious they have no clue what they’re talking about, and just repeating decade-old arguments.

As far as home-game attendance, it comes with winning. Unfortunate, but true.

Mike Leach will never coach the Canes, that much is a given. Kirby Hocutt is looking to make a much bigger hire than Schiano, and has the funds to do so. Expect a big hire. Gruden is the top of the wish list, but he will be expensive and it may not work out that the funds exist. The fact that negotiations are underway though should tell you Miami is willing to pay good money, and is taking this hire VERY seriously.

Miami is not the school it once was…no more orange bowl…Florida, FSU, and SFU have all staked claims in their recruiting grounds…Miami needs a system…go find an assistant coach somewhere that runs the spread…Gus Malzahn maybe??

The Canes need to get out of their lop sided stadium deal with Dolphins and work on a deal with Marlins to put football at their new digs or start a fund to construct their own on-campus stadium. The Dolphins stadium is too far from their campus(if you know Miami traffic it is too far).

As far as a coach, Schiano or Mike Leach would be a perfect fit for Canes.

The Miami job isn’t as attractive as it used to be.
Their facilities are antiquated, they don’t have their own stadium and their games fill about 60%
of the stands and at least half of them are discounted and “free” tickets. Their recruiting base is South Florida and almost half of that is inner city Miami kids. This is a low income area,
high juvenile crime rate and very poor performing academically recruit base. It takes the right coach/personality to relate and communicate with these kids and it won’t be easy. Miami also can’t afford to pay big $$$ for a coach and that could be a drawback.

A coach who could do just about all of the above is Charley Strong, the ex Gator Defensive Coordinator and current Louisville head coach.
I really don’t see Gruden fitting in their and having long term success but hell anything can work and getting a high profile name might get things rolling on a positive note.

I think if Harbaugh goes anywhere it will be to his alma mater – Michigan. In fact, his phone lines should be burning up on Monday when Michigan finally fires RichRod. And I’m sure that Harbaugh would take Michigan over Miami – at Michigan he wouldn’t have to worry about turning a bunch of felons into good football players.
