Gruden a ‘Canes candidate? Yeah, not so much

Twitter was all, well, atwitter earlier today with reports flying around from various rapscallions in the radio industry that Jon Gruden would be the next head coach of Miami Hurricanes. Those reports even went so far as to monkey-fling contract numbers up against the nearest wall.

It appears, though, that it was all (surprise!) just a bunch of bull feces being flung by people with nothing but ratings to gain.

According to Peter King of NBC Sports and SI.com via Twitter, “Jon Gruden is not going to the University of Miami. Period.”

According to video on the same subject from the same NFL insider, Gruden is not going to Miami. Period.

In addition to King deftly swatting the rumors away, Gruden released a statement through his current employer, ESPN. Although, honestly, it will do more to stoke the rumor mill fires than it does put them out.

“I am committed to Monday Night Football and to ESPN. I enjoy working with Mike, Jaws and our entire crew and am just trying to get better at this job.”

In other words, football teams with a vacancy at head coach, call him. He’ll listen.
