Taylor Martinez to be day-to-day ahead of Big 12 title game

It appears Oklahoma’s not the only participant in the Big 12 title game that will have uncertainty swirling around a key piece of their offensive puzzle throughout the week.

Speaking on the Big 12 teleconference Monday, head coach Bo Pelini said that starting quarterback Taylor Martinez is officially listed as day-to-day. The redshirt freshman is suffering from an ankle injury as well as a bad case of turf toe.

The injuries kept Martinez out of the division-clinching win over Colorado Saturday, allowing Cody Green to make his second start of the season. The sophomore took full advantage of the opportunity, throwing two touchdowns and running for another in the win.

Perhaps based in large part on that performance, Pelini said that, even if Martinez is cleared to play and starts, both players could see time on the field.

“We’ll play the guy that we feel is going to give us the best chance to win the game, and it might be a combination of the two,” the coach said.
