Yeah, the ACC has been anti-climactic this year, but orchestrating a six-win turnaround in just one season is impressive no matter where you play.
And for that reason, Maryland’s Ralph Friedgen was named conference Coach of the Year.
Friedgen, who ranks third all time in school history with 74 wins, won the award for the second time during his 10 years as the Terrapins head coach, with the first being his inaugural year in College Park. Last season, Maryland finished 2-10 and heading into this one, it appeared Friedgen was leading the list of coaches on the hot seat.
But Maryland started hot at 4-1 and finished the 2010 regular season at 8-4, including a win over divisional rival NC State. Where Friedgen’s team goes bowling this month is still a mystery, but the coach has reportedly been on the phones with bowl officials lobbying his team’s case.
