Randy Shannon reportedly a Vandy target too

For someone so readily tossed overboard by The Good Ship Miami, Randy Shannon is seemingly having no problem getting schools to toss coaching life preservers in his general direction.

A couple of days after it was reported that Shannon would have an interest in the Minnesota vacancy -- we’ve since confirmed that the interest is coming from the other side of the table, too -- there’s word leaking out that the former Hurricanes head coach might be a target for yet another opening.

According to The Tennessean, and citing an unnamed source, Vanderbilt has added Shannon’s name to its list of desirable candidates. There was no indication in the report that Shannon was/will reciprocate Vandy’s reported interest, although it appears Shannon is willing to get right back into the coaching game sooner rather than later.

Given the way he raised the academic bar at Miami as well as running a clean program, Shannon would appear to be an ideal fit for a school such as Vanderbilt. Plus, it’s believed Shannon was “only” making $1.5 million annually at Miami, so money should not be an issue if Vanderbilt chose to pursue him.

In addition to Shannon, the paper mentions that both Stanford assistant Greg Roman and long-time Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster would be open to listening to overtures from the school should they call.

Temple’s Al Golden is also listed a sa potential candidate, although his reported $2 million buyout could force a school such as Vandy to shy away.
