Apparently, a Louisville defensive back was getting a very early headstart on celebrating the tremendous slate of games we have on tap for Saturday afternoon.
According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, cornerback Darius Ashley was arrested early Friday morning and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence and under 21 years old. From the paper:According to the arrest citation, police found Ashley, 20, at about 2:30 a.m. unconscious at the wheel of a car with the engine running and in gear at a restaurant on South Brook Street.
Police said Ashley was awakened by an officer knocking on his car window and reported a strong smell of alcohol when he opened the door. Police said his speech was slurred and he was unsteady.
Head coach Charlie Strong said in a statement that he is “aware of the situation and am handling the matter internally. Darius will be disciplined immediately.”
The 20-year-old sophomore has played in eight games this season and is second on the Cardinals with two interceptions.
Louisville, which finished the regular season at 6-6, will find out their postseason fate Sunday night.
