No Wynn situation: Utes lose starting QB for bowl

Jordan Wynn started ten games for the 10-2 Utah Utes this season. Unfortunately for the sophomore, he won’t make it an uneven 11.

Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham announced after practice Saturday that Wynn will miss the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas due to an injury to his right (throwing) shoulder. The shoulder had been bothering Wynn for a couple of weeks, and an MRI performed on Friday revealed the extent of the damage.

Not only will the surgery to be performed in the coming days keep him out of the bowl game, the early prognosis is that it will knock him out for all of spring practice as well.

“Bad news. Jordan was diagnosed with a shoulder injury. He’ll have surgery before the bowl game in the upcoming 7-10 days,” Whittingham said. “It’ll be a six- month rehab, so he will not be available for spring ball.”

With Wynn sidelined, senior Terrance Cain will take over the starting job for the bowl game against either Boise State (likely) or Nevada. Cain started two games earlier this season when Wynn was unavailable due to a thumb injury.

During his career with the Utes, Cain is 9-1 as a starter.
