Report: Davis expected to step down as UT’s offensive coordinator

There were plenty of Longhorns fans who got their hopes up last week when reports emerged that Greg Davis was being dismissed as Texas’ offensive coordinator. While those hopes were summarily dashed, they appear to be back on.

According to a report on 24/7sports.com, Davis will resign his position as UT’s coordinator at some point today. There has been no confirmation from the school, and our attempts at getting a comment on the development have gone unanswered.

Davis has been under fire for most of the season thanks to an offense -- and play-calling -- that’s bordered on inept. The Longhorns finished their first bowl-free season since 1997 at No. 59 in the country in total offense and No. 88 in scoring offense, making Davis an easy and obvious target.

Davis has been a part of Mack Brown’s coaching staffs for each of the past 15 seasons, as well as a three-year stretch in the mid-eighties when Brown was the head coach at Tulane.

UPDATED 2:39 p.m. ET: According to the Dallas Morning News, and citing a team source, nothing is likely to be announced today on the Davis front.
