Hoke to get a new contract from Aztecs

Connected to several openings already, it appears that not only will Brady Hoke be back as San Diego State’s head coach in 2011, but he’ll do so with a new contract -- and the requisite raise -- in tow.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the school will announce at a 4:30 p.m. ET press conference Monday that they have reached an agreement on a new deal with Hoke. His current deal, which has three years remaining, calls for a salary of $700,000 next year, but that’s expected to increase substantially thanks to a $5 million gift from an anonymous donor to the football program.

He will likely have two years tacked on to his original deal, the paper reports.

Hoke was mentioned as a possibility at both Colorado and Minnesota throughout the past couple of weeks. In fact, he spoke to the athletic director at the latter school regarding their vacancy.

There’s also the little matter of Michigan; if Rich Rodriguez‘s karaoke routine wasn’t successful, there’s a chance the Wolverines job could open up. As a former UM assistant and given his success with the Aztecs -- they will appear in a bowl for the first time since 1998 -- Hoke would certainly be appealing to the Wolverines if RichRod is dismissed.
