WVU offensive coordinator a candidate for Kent State job

On more than a few occasions over the past two seasons, although admittedly less so this season, I’ve received emails from West Virginia fans that read, basically, “when the hell are we getting rid of Jeff Mullen?”

For those Mountaineer fans in the anti-Mullen camp, your wish may be on the brink of becoming a reality.

Citing two unnamed sources, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Mullen is in fact “a strong candidate” for the Kent State opening. On the record, WVU athletic director Oliver Luck confirmed Wednesday that the Mountaineers offensive coordinator is a candidate.

“They have him as one of the people they are interested in,” Luck said. “It is my understanding Jeff is in the running for that position.”

Mullen has reportedly already interviewed for the position, but apparently it was at a different location as the Charleston Daily Mail reports that he has yet to be on the Kent State campus.

Other names that are being connected to the opening are Ohio State assistant head coach and wide receivers coach Darrell Hazell and USF offensive coordinator Todd Fitch.
