In the post right below this one, we noted that Paul Rhoads‘ name has emerged in connection to the opening at Pittsburgh.
Since then, we’ve caught wind of rumors that the Panthers may be targeting Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen as well. In fact, the esteemed Tom Dienhart of Rivals.com tweeted earlier today that “it sounds like… Holgorsen has emerged at the top target at Pitt.”
When contacted by the Daily Oklahoman regarding the rumors, Holgorsen said he has “not been contacted.” The first-year OSU coordinator added that he’s “pretty happy” in Stillwater.
Of course, Holgorsen’s denial of contact means little or nothing as that’s why coaches have agents — plausible deniability.
Based on the stunning production of the Cowboys’ offense in its first year with Holgorsen holding the reins, there was little doubt he would get at least a sniff from schools searching for a new head coach. Will it go any further than a flirtation? Dienhart seems to think so, so we’re inclined to lean in that direction as well.
