By all appearances, Kevin Newsome‘s career as a Penn State Nittany Lion is over.
Once thought to be the heir apparent to Daryll Clark at quarterback, Newsome instead has found himself buried behind true freshman Rob Bolden and former walk-on Matt McGloin on PSU’s depth chart.
Now, with rumors swirling that he will be transferring from the school, the Patriot-News is reporting that Newsome did not make the trip with his teammates to Florida for the school’s Outback Bowl appearance.
Head coach Joe Paterno said earlier this month that he was uncertain of Newsome’s future at the school; Newsome’s decision to remain home screams there is no future, at least in Happy Valley.
As noted by the paper, Newsome entered spring practice as the favorite t
o win the starting job, but ultimately found himself behind Bolden and then McGloin, finishing the 2010 as the No. 3 QB.
First he dumps his commitment to Michigan because they signed Forcier and Robinson. Now he is dumping PSU because he is listed as 3rd on the depth chart. Can’t fault a guy for wanting to play.
Newsome can go to Delaware with Pat Devlin! Newsome is a runner, not a passer…
