Syracuse suspends two, including one starter

Ahead of their bowl game at Yankee Stadium, Syracuse’s defensive line has taken a bit of a hit thanks to some apparent off-field shenanigans.

According to a release issued by the school, senior Andrew Lewis and freshman Brice Hawkes have been suspended for the 2010 New Era Pinstripe Bowl for a violation of team rules. Head coach Doug Marrone announced the punishment Thursday afternoon, although no details of what led to his decision were given.

A defensive tackle, Lewis started all 12 games for the Orange in 2010, compiling 28 tackles. Hawkes played in 11 of 12 games, primarily on special teams, in his first year at Syracuse.

The Orange will play Kansas State in the inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl on Thursday, December 30, 2010.
