Yellow Jackets lose two starters, four players total, for bowl game

For the final game of their 2010 season, Georgia Tech will be down a pair of starters. And, for good measure, two additional players as well.

So says a press release issued by the school, which announced Thursday evening that starting wide receiver Stephen Hill and starting safety Mario Edwards are both ineligible for not meeting Georgia Tech’s academic requirements and will miss Monday’s AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl. Additionally, senior defensive end Robert Hall and senior linebacker Anthony Barnes are ineligible to compete in the game against Air Force under NCAA academic guidelines.

The sophomore Hill led the run-heavy Yellow Jackets with 15 receptions, 291 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Hill started nine games this season.

Edwards, a senior who had transferred to the school from Virginia Tech in 2008, started all 12 games in 2010. He started five games in 2009.

Barnes and Hall played in 12 and 10 games, respectively, this year.
