Domestic assault reported at home of former Texas Tech defensive coordinator

In the hours after Texas Tech issued a press release Sunday evening stating that defensive coordinator James Willis had abruptly left the football program to pursue other career opportunities, speculation arose that Willis could be headed to Florida, possibly as Will Muschamp‘s coordinator.

Based on the report coming out of Lubbock 24 hours or so later, you might be able to scratch him off the list for any position on Muschamp’s new UF staff.

According to FOX 34 News, a domestic dispute took place at Willis’ home very early in the morning of Dec. 22. The unidentified 33-year-old female victim alleged an incident of domestic violence took place involving a 38-year-old male who had left the property before police arrived. Police did not divulge the name of the alleged aggressor, but the incident took place in Willis’ home and Willis turned 38 on Sept. 2.

The injuries to the alleged victim were described as minor.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

It’s unclear at this point in time if the incident, if it did indeed involve Willis, played a role in the coordinator’s decision to seek other opportunities. That’s assuming, of course, the school was aware of it.
