Malzahn says his focus is on Ducks, not Terps

For the second time in less than a month, Gus Malzahn‘s name has been attached to a head-coaching vacancy.

And, once again, the Auburn offensive coordinator is keeping his public words focused on the task at hand.

Malzahn is reportedly one of the front-runners to replace Ralph Friedgen. In fact, it’s been reported that he’s already interviewed for the vacancy; head coach Gene Chizik said earlier in the week “that there are possibilities of contact” between his coordinator and Maryland.

As the Tigers continue preparations for the national title game, though, Malzahn says he’s more worried about birds than reptiles right now.

“My only focus is on helping us win the national championship. I will have nothing else on my mind,” Malzahn said according to the Birmingham News.

Fortunately for Malzahn, most of the attention as it pertains to the Maryland opening is focused on Mike Leach. The ex-Texas Tech head coach spent the past two days doing on-campus interviews with Terrapin officials, and is believed to be the top choice of very influential people connected to the school.

It’s rumored -- but far from confirmed -- that the Terps could make an offer to one of their candidates as early as this weekend.
