Miles confirms he will speak to Michigan

OK, now it’s officially, officially on.

Following up on reports that he will speak to Michigan Tuesday regarding their coaching vacancy, LSU head coach Les Miles confirmed earlier this afternoon that he will indeed meet with his officials from his alma mater. Miles spoke to the media at the press conference announcing cornerback Patrick Peterson is leaving for the NFL.

“If anything, we have a very distant conversation with representatives that would represent the school,” he said. “I’m told we will speak at that time in a place that has not been identified, and it’s hard for me to speculate to the substance of that meeting.”

Wait a minute. “I’m told”? “Hard to speculate to the substance of that meeting”? God bless Les and his eccentricities, but that little tap-dance is embarrassing and an insult to fans of the LSU football program.

You’re speaking to another school about a job. Come out and admit it completely -- without the “gee golly shucks” rube schtick -- then move on.

Everybody involved deserves better than a Sammy Davis Jr. routine.
