UAB picks up former Memphis coach to run defense

slow-news

If you haven’t figured it out by now, it’s a really slow news day. So slow, in fact, that I’m digging into the filing cabinets like Alexander Ovechkin in a SportsCenter commercial for anything newsworthy.

Tommy West, who formally coached at the University of Memphis for 9 seasons, was named the new UAB defensive coordinator Friday by head coach Neil Callaway, al.com reports. West replaces fired defensive coordinator Eric Schumann.

West was fired from Memphis in 2009 and did not coach this past season.

“I was really impressed with the job he did with Memphis’ defense when he was their coordinator and the job he did as a head coach both there and when he was at Clemson,” said Callaway of West. “I know he is a good person and outstanding coach who fits into what we are doing both in philosophy and in toughness.”

And now, ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Conway Twitty

Good job Ben. I like the Conway Twitty link. How about a link to the underclassmen that declared?

I am more of a George Jones fan myself. Anybody to get DUI on a lawn mower after his wife took the car keys from him is alright with me.
