Jadeveon Clowney takes ‘freak’ to a new level

For those who don’t know just who the subject of the headline is, Jadeveon Clowney is the No. 1 high school player in the country according to most of the major and not-so-major recruiting services that litter the Internet landscape.

And, if you watch just a few seconds of the video clip below, you’ll know exactly why every major football program in the country would give their left and right Ole Miss head coach for the opportunity to add the Rock Hill (S.C.) defensive end to their 2011 recruiting class. The kid is just an absolute freak of nature, and that’s anything but hyperbole.

Watching his highlights, it calls to mind what it would look like if I were lined up as a rush end and my four-year-old daughter was at tackle protecting the quarterback’s blind side. Forget man amongst boys; this is man vs. fetuses. Or embryos.

As it stands now, the 6-6, 250-pound Clowney has whittled his list of schools down to six -- South Carolina, Alabama, Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina and LSU. He’s already taken official visits to Columbia and Tuscaloosa, and has plans to take in the Tallahassee and Chapel Hill campuses as well. His fifth and final official visit will be to one of the other two schools, although which one’s yet to be determined.

Clowney is not expected to make his decision on National Signing Day Feb. 2; rather, rumor has it that he could very well make his decision public on his birthday, Feb. 14. That also happens to be Valentine’s Day, for what it’s worth.

While his “official” list is down to six, it’s believed the Gamecocks and the Tide are a couple notches above the other schools at this point in time and one of the two will ultimately land the lineman.

Now, onto precisely why every school in the country starts to drool whenever Clowney’s name is mentioned...

Just... dayum. That can’t be of this earth, can it?

I have no clue how he will do at the collegiate level, but that raw potential has me salivating and I won’t even be the one coaching him.
