TCU AD slightly miffed over potential move to the blue turf

Blue Turf

Yesterday, Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson revealed that athletic directors in the conference were in favor of moving the Boise State-TCU game from Forth Worth to Boise and no it’s not of spite because TCU’s moving to the Big East either.

Although no firm decision has been made, a move seems inevitable; it takes a simple majority of MWC presidents to vote for a change, and TCU does not hold a vote during their lame-duck year in the league.

Today, TCU’s athletic director let it be known that he’s, well, not exactly thrilled with the development.

“It’s our home game and they told us it would be our home game and to change the rules midstream is not appropriate,” Chris Del Conte told ESPNDallas.com. “I’m hoping they do what we originally said, which was that it would be a home game for TCU. To me to change it is not right, but that’s been the discussion.”

A final decision on a venue change could be made as early as next week at a meeting of the league presidents.  Del Conte seems to be naively holding out hope that those in power will show some sort of class and keep the schedule as is.

“I don’t think just because we’re going to the Big East for a different opportunity that we should be treated differently,” Del Conte said shortly before being asked to pull the conference’s finger.

Is TCU loses the Boise State game, will it in turn receive a home game against an MWC opponent currently slated as a road contest?

It’s a bush league move that will perpetuate the MWC’s “Sisters of the Poor” image.

Keep the game where it’s at and don’t pull some stupid grab at boosting BSU’s ranking. They get enough undeserved love as it is.

no wonder TCU is leaving the bush league, make that the mwc

Boise needs to step up and prove that they’ve got the class to do the right thing. I may support their quest to be included in the BCS but I don’t support the MWC conference’s obvious vindictiveness.

First and foremost…Love TCU and planning to send my kid there for their Ranch Management program.

BUT…TCU needs to realize this is what happens when you leave on conference for another.

Understand the Big East is a BCS qualifier and they will make a ton of money in the long term.

BUT, in the short term go to Boise State and whip their @ss and suffer the 2011 season in MWC much like Nebraska did in the Big 12 in 2010.

Is it petty and vindictive what the MWC is doing to TCU? Heck yes, but that’s human nature and you can’t blame the MWC for leaning towards help a school that is joining the conference over one that is LEAVING.

Besides for TCU a win on the road at Boise State would only help their 2011 BCS bid EVEN MORE than a home win against Boise….Wouldn’t it?

Except that the Cornhuskers weren’t forced into changing their games and they actually got a discount on their buyout.

The MWC has no incentive to keep the game at TCU, and every incentive to move it to Boise.

It gives Boise an advantage, and the MWC needs all the help it can to get an automatic berth in the BCS. A Boise win against TCU will help that.

A TCU win against Boise won’t, and will only help the Big East.

Why WOULDN’T the MWC change it?

@ edgy…True…probably not the best analogy, but the Big XII probably could afford to be more generous with NE since they are already a BCS qualifier.

Except that their defection cost them a trip to The Palace Near Dallas and another big pay day, as well as a lot of big pay dyas for the foreseeable future.

I heard that the MWC just signed a TV deal with the Cartoon Network channel. All their games will start at 7:00 in the morning.

How about replacing the turf to look like a ‘real’ football field, rather than a kindergarten art project?
