Father of Trojan transfer says son ‘didn’t get a fair chance’

When former USC wide receiver Brice Butler announced yesterday via Twitter that he would be leaving the program, the sophomore, for all intents and purposes, actually took the high road.

Always will be a part of trojan nation! No regrets, I just gotta go play fball, which isn’t happening here… I love all yall! Always will …

Was not an easy decision but evaluatin my future and what I want to do, it woulda been difficult here at this point so I made my dec[ision]

Butler’s father, on the other hand, seems more content with revealing what he believes is the truth about his son’s time at USC.

Lane Kiffin did not give Brice a fair chance,” Bobby Butler, a 12-year veteran of the NFL, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “No, he did not give him a fair chance at all.

“You take a kid who is a starter, then the next thing you know you put a kid (Robert Woods) who has only been (in practice) for 10 days and start him in front of (Butler).

“But it’s all good. It wasn’t meant to be at USC under Lane Kiffin, so he needs to go to a place that is right for him. We’re just going to keep moving forward, and everything is going to work out for Brice.”

One thing’s for sure: Butler wasn’t getting much a “chance” at playing time under former coach, Pete Carrol, either. As a redshirt freshman, Butler caught 20 passes for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns and six of those catches were in his lone start against Stanford.
