Al Groh’s son reportedly a candidate for Tide vacancy

Saturday, it was reported that the former head coach at Mississippi State could interview for the lone vacancy on Nick Saban‘s Alabama coaching staff as early this weekend.

Now comes word that a spawn of the former head coach at Virginia and Wake Forest could be an option as well.

The Birmingham News has not only confirmed the Tuscaloosa News report that ex-MSU coach Sylvester Croom is a candidate for the Tide, but the paper also reports that Mike Groh is in play for the opening as well. Groh, who was offensive coordinator at Virginia under his father Al Groh from 2006-08, spent last season as quarterbacks coach at Louisville.

Groh was also a “grad assistant” at Alabama in 2009.

The vacancy on Saban’s staff was created when wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator Curt Cignetti left to become head coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
