Army to be sans starting QB for spring practice

When Army takes the field for spring practice in March, they’ll do so without their two-year-starter at quarterback in tow.

Head coach Rich Ellerson told the Times Herald-Record that Trent Steelman has undergone shoulder surgery this offseason and will be unavailable for the spring sessions. The surgery, though, shouldn’t impact his ability to participate fully at the start of summer camp.

Steelman has started all 25 games the past two seasons, and was the academy’s second-leading rusher in 2010. He led Army with 11 rushing touchdowns.

With Steelman out, junior Max Jenkins will get the bulk of the work with the first-team offense this spring.
