Exciting? Indiana and Ball State to open season in Lucas Oil Stadium

(This is what we refer to as a “feeding the beast” post. Please save your “yawns” and “next article, please” for something else.)

Indiana and Ball State have signed a contract agreeing to play their Sept. 3 season opener game in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. LOS officials still have to sign their portion of the contract, thus completing the deal.

“It’s still our home game,” BSU AD Tom Collins (great name) said. “We’ll control everything. From a game-management standpoint and everything else, it will look and feel like a Ball State home game.

Collins said the goal was to sell 40,000 tickets at $40 a pop. Games at BSU normally go for between $7 and $15. But, Collins hopes that BSU and Indiana’s alumni will fill up the initial attendance estimates.

“We have a huge alumni base down there,” Collins said. “To be able to play a game down there and be able to draw our alumns that are down there and our folks from here -- IU has a big alumni base down there -- that plays a factor into it.”
