Hawkeyes radio voice seriously injured after being hit by vehicle

Long-time Iowa radio analyst Ed Podolak suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle over the weekend, the school has confirmed in a press release.

Per the release, Podolak suffered the injuries when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street near his Scottsdale, Ariz., hotel. Podolak and his wife, Vicki, were attending a social event Saturday in the city.

Podolak will remain hospitalized for the foreseeable future.

"“My dad is alert and in good spirits. His injuries are serious, but non-life threatening,” Laura Podolak, one of Ed and Vicki’s two daughters, said in a statement. “Our family greatly appreciates the calls and well-wishes we have received from friends and fans throughout the country. But, we also request that everyone respects our privacy as Dad recovers from his injuries. We also want to thank the emergency personnel, doctors and nurses for their quick response and continued care.”

Podolak has spent more 25 years as a radio analyst for the Hawkeye Sports Network’s coverage of Iowa football. He was also a running back and quarterback for the Hawkeyes in the late-sixties.
