Kiffin not likely to reach out to transferring receiver

Thursday morning, we noted that Brice Butler, who announced back in January that he was transferring, had left the door slightly ajar for a return to USC.

Yesterday afternoon, his former head coach gave no indication that he was even remotely interested in grabbing the doorknob and opening it any further.

Speaking to the media following practice, Lane Kiffin reiterated that he hasn’t spoken to Butler recently and, more importantly, doesn’t have any plans to do so in the future. Unless, of course, Butler makes the first move.

“I’m worried about the players who want to be here, the guys who are out here on the field,” Kiffin said.

“If he wants to be here, then we’ll talk to him at that time. I think it’s a pretty neat deal to (have) a $75,000 scholarship a year playing football at USC. I would think most people would want that.”

Cecil Newton jokes notwithstanding, it appears that any chance Butler has of returning to the Trojans falls squarely on the shoulders of the wide receiver. As Butler also said yesterday that “I feel good about my decision to transfer” and “I don’t have any regrets”, this standoff will very likely end with the redshirt junior resuming his collegiate career at either Tennessee-Chattanooga or Delaware.
