Ex-Hawkeye, ex-Sooner RB named in custody suit

Seven months later, the “personal issues” that led to Brandon Wegher first leaving summer camp and then, ultimately, the Iowa football program are beginning to come into focus.

Both the Cedar Rapids Gazette and the Des Moines Register are reporting that Wegher has been named in a child custody suit, with the mother seeking sole legal custody of their infant son. 20-year-old Megan Glisar, a former Iowa track athlete, has also petitioned for Wegher to pay for the plaintiff’s legal fees and for birthing and medical expenses, as well as child support that she apparently wants based in part on the bank account of the running back’s father.

Glisar, a former high jumper on the Iowa women’s track team from Sergeant Bluff, has asked that child support be based on “imputed income” to Wegher. The claim is that Wegher’s earning capacity is far greater than his income. Wegher’s father, Rick, is president of Wegher Construction Company and WD Homes, which builds upscale developments in Sioux City and Dakota Dunes, S.D.

Court documents state that Wegher’s son was born Nov. 8, a month before he left Iowa for good.

Wegher, who set an Iowa freshman record in 2009 with eight rushing touchdowns, was granted a release from his Iowa scholarship last December. He transferred to Oklahoma in January and, after a waiver for that would’ve allowed him to play for the Sooners immediately was denied, was planning to practice with the Sooners as a walk-on in 2011.

However, Wegher abruptly left the OU program late last month, leading head coach Bob Stoops to quip “yeah... that didn’t last long.”
