Kentucky’s turn to boot a former four-star recruit

This has not been a good day for four-star players from the 2010 recruiting class.

Earlier today, Marshall announced they had dismissed Brian Robinson for violating unspecified team rules, which later turned out to be related to an arrest for domestic battery and carrying a concealed weapon.

Now comes word that another highly-regarded member of the Class of ’10 has suffered a similar fate.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, tight end Alex Smith has been dismissed from the Kentucky football program. Other than every-handy “unspecified violations of team rules”, no reason was given for the dismissal.

Smith was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 11 TE in the country last year and was the highest-ranked recruit in the Wildcats’ class. Those lofty rankings didn’t help Smith much during his time in Lexington, however, as he redshirted last year and was buried deep on the depth chart entering spring practice.
