USC five-star receiver MIA from practice

In January, Markeith Ambles returned to USC after a turbulent freshman year that saw him serve a suspension and, ultimately, “voluntarily” leaving the football program in November.

Three months after his return, Ambles (pictured, on a recruiting visit to Tennessee) may find himself on the outside of the program once again. Although this time, it may be an “involuntary” move.

Head coach Lane Kiffin confirmed Saturday that the wide receiver was a no-show for the morning practice and, in an even more damaging move on the player’s part, did not inform the coaches of where he was or what his issue may be.

ESPNLosAngeles.com writes that Ambles “was punished earlier in the week for arriving late to a mandatory team weightlifting session and was not allowed to practice on Thursday, instead running repeatedly around Howard Jones Field during the Trojans’ practice.”

As for his future with the program, Kiffin said “we’ll figure it out.”

Ambles had played in the first four games of the 2010 season before his academic suspension and subsequent departure. Coming out of McDonough, Ga., he was a five-star member of the Trojans’ 2010 recruiting class and the No. 3 receiver in the country according to Rivals.com.
