Boise State backup charged with battery

Just as the “Days Without an Arrest” ticker was inching its way toward double digits, a member of the Boise State football program has come along to kick the thing back to double zeros.

According to the Idaho Statesman, defensive tackle John Nisby was charged with misdemeanor battery following an early-morning incident outside of a Boise bar April 3.

Witnesses told police the 22-year-old Nisby was in the bar when he saw another man he was having an ongoing dispute with. An altercation broke out and Nisby began choking the other man for a short amount of time until they were separated by a group of bystanders, according to police reports.

Police were not notified about what happened until about 4 p.m. that day when the victim called. Officers investigated and ticketed Nisby later that night.

The Statesman reports that the school is aware of the arrest. Nisby has not practiced this spring as head coach Chris Petersen wants the senior, the paper writes, to focus on his responsibilities off the field. Based on the arrest, that plan’s apparently not going as well as expected.

Last season, Nisby finished tied for sixth with three sacks and tied for eighth with 4.5 tackles for loss. He saw action in 11 games.
