Notre Dame set to release investigation on student’s death tomorrow

Notre Dame is slated to announce the findings of its internal investigation into the death of student Declan Sullivan on Monday, six months after Sullivan died during a Notre Dame practice, says the Associated Press.

Former University of Arizona president Peter Likins, who acted as an independent consultant on the investigation, and Notre Dame president Rev. John Jenkins are scheduled to attend Monday’s news conference.

A separate investigation released by the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration last month found that Notre Dame committed six “serious violations” that lead to Sullivan’s death. The university was fined $77,500.

What the school finds in its own investigation will surely be a subject of interest to those critical of Notre Dame -- and coach Brian Kelly‘s -- initial explanation of the event.

Sullivan, a junior film student, died in October when hydraulic lift he was on fell over in high winds as he filmed football practice. The lift was only able to support winds nearing 30 mph, but winds on that day were gusting above 50.
