Leg injury may impact Kansas RB Bourbon’s 2011 season

After redshirting last season, Brandon Bourbon was expected to play a more significant role in Kansas’ running game behind starter and fellow 2010 recruiting class member James Sims.

Unfortunately, those plans may have been derailed.

Jayhawks head coach Turner Gill confirmed Monday evening that the running back suffered a lower leg injury during practice and will miss the remainder of spring practice. Gill said Bourbon will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair the injury, which he would not specify.

However, a since-deleted tweet from a teammate’s Twitter page indicated that Bourbon had broken his leg and fractured his ankle. Off that, the Lawrence Journal-World speculates that the back’s season could be in doubt because of the injury.

Rivals.com listed Bourbon as a four-star player and the No. 29 RB in the country coming out of high school last year.
