On the same day the MAC officially introduced UMass as its newest member, news has surfaced that a player from the conference was acting like a male member over the weekend and, as a result, has found himself on the wrong side of the law. Again.
According to KentWired.com, Kent State safety Zachary Gonosz was arrested over the weekend following an incident outside of a downtown Kent drinking establishment. The sophomore was subsequently charged with underage drinking, displaying a fake I.D. and assault.
The assault charge stemmed from a rather bizarre confrontation with the owner of a cab company that allegedly became physical.Cab driver Jeffrey Austin, who works for A#1 Cab, said Gonosz approached his van outside of Mugs Brew Pub and Sports Grill at about 2:45 a.m.
Gonosz told Austin that he rode in his taxi the previous weekend, and allegedly began an altercation with the van’s passenger, Ronald Cassie.
Cassie, a 39-year-old Streestsboro resident and owner of A#1 Cab Dispatch, reported being assaulted by Gonosz, according to a police report.

“The dude really didn’t know what he was talking about,” Austin said. “I think he was just a little bit too drunk, and he didn’t even know the guy’s name that he hit.”
As a result of the arrest, the Dallas, Ga., native was indefinitely suspended by first-year head coach Darrell Hazell. This was Gonosz’s second alcohol-related incident since coming to the school; in May of 2010, the defensive back was cited for underage consumption.
Gonosz played in 10 games in 2009, but redshirted last season because of an injury.
