After missing the entire 2010 season due to a suspension following his DUI arrest, it was thought that Kiko Alonso was the favorite to replace Casey Matthews as Oregon’s starting middle linebacker.
Given the news that surfaced very early this morning, it’s officially time for the Ducks to move on to Plan B for Matthews’ replacement.
According to both the Eugene Register-Guard and The Oregonian, Alonso was arrested Sunday on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. No details of what led to the arrest have been made available at this time.
The school has yet to comment publicly on the situation, although it would be safe to assume that, given his year-long suspension handed down last February, Alonso is not long for the Ducks.
As a redshirt freshman in 2009, Alonso played in 12 games as a backup LB, and was credited with 16 tackles.
