Projected Ducks starter at LB pleads guilty, sees felony dropped

Well, that was certainly quick.

A mere four days after reports of his arrest first surfaced, Kiko Alonso has already reached a plea agreement in his case. In exchange for a guilty plea to a charge of first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass -- both misdemeanors -- a felony burglary charge against the Oregon linebacker was dropped.

On the two charges to which he pleaded guilty, Alonso was sentenced to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service as well as agreeing to what the Eugene Register-Guard refers to as “intensive” alcohol treatment.

Alonso was reportedly not sober when he broke into a stranger’s home this past weekend, apparently believing it was his. If those reports are correct, this would be Alonso’s second alcohol-related incident in a little over a year; in February of 2010, he was arrested on a drunk-driving charge.

That first arrest triggered a season-long suspension. He was also indefinitely suspended for his latest brush with the law. It’s unclear what type of future, if any, Alonso has with the Ducks.

The junior was being projected as Casey Matthews’ replacement as the Ducks’ starting middle linebacker.
