Finally, Northwestern puts finishing touches on deal with Fitzgerald

Remember that “long-term extension” for Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald that was supposedly in its final stages shortly after Fitzgerald pulled his name from the Michigan wish-list waaaaayyyy back in January?

Yeah, we don’t either.

However, after a seemingly longer-than-it-should-have-been wait, it appears Northwestern and Fitzgerald have finally agreed to a new contract, an inside source told the Associated Press.

The new details of the new contract are set to be released tomorrow, but the source did say that the length was “significant” -- whatever that means -- although the original rumors on Jan. 14 indicated that the contract extension was set for eight years.

Fitzgerald is 34-29 record in five seasons at Northwestern and more than deserving of an extension that, according to the original reports, should have been finalized a couple of months ago.
