Video: OSU AD addresses Jim Tressel’s resignation

In a video message released by Ohio State Monday afternoon, athletic director Gene Smith addressed the resignation of his head football coach, Jim Tressel.

Smith confirmed several details that had previously been reported, including the fact that he and Tressel met Sunday night following the coach’s vacation and discussed the state of the football program, with conversation ultimately ending in Tressel’s decision to resign. Smith said Tressel officially tendered his resignation this morning and then met with available members of his now-former football team.

Additionally, Smith seemed to intimate that more accusations may be in the offing.

“As you all know, we are under NCAA investigation. We will not discuss any of the matters around that case, any further accusations that may emerge, we will do what we always do: we respond to them, we collaborate with the NCAA and try and find the truth.”

Our guess? A lot of people in and around the football program are sweating bullets as they await the publishing of George Dohrmann’s Sports Illustrated expose’ into OSU football.
