Michigan’s Stonum officially pleads guilty to DUI

National “get your drink on” day rolls forward here at CFT as Michigan wide receiver Darryl Stonum has pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while visibly impaired, a “poor decision” stemming from an early May DUI.

The decision to plead guilty comes three weeks after he initially pleaded not guilty to a DUI charge.

Stonum, who has been suspended indefinitely from the team by head coach Brady Hoke, has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors that calls for a dismissal of his charge of driving with a suspended license.

This is Stonum’s third run-in with the law since enrolling at Michigan and he could face up to a year in prison when sentenced next Friday.

Which, of course, would make it pretty damn hard to be reinstated to the football team.

“If he fulfills all of the commitments he has to the legal system and our program, we will make a determination regarding his return to the team,” said Hoke in a previously released statement. “This is a serious situation. We are disappointed and any athletic department discipline will be handled internally. We will provide the appropriate support and counseling in order for him to learn and grow from this mistake.”
