‘Decent shot’ Pryor tries his hand at UFL first

As many of you have already alluded to, whether jokingly or not, there could be a good shot that the now “former” Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor will try his luck in the United Football League before moving on up to the east side (better known as the NFL).

A “well-placed UFL source” told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Pryor would benefit from time in the UFL under former NFL such as Marty Schottenheimer, Dennis Green, Jim Fassel and Jerry Glanville and that there’s a “decent shot” that Pryor will follow through on that choice.

Pryor’s lawyer, Larry James, also told ESPN’s Joe Schad that Pryor hasn’t applied for the supplemental draft -- yet -- and might consider the Canadian Football League. The 2011 Canadian Football League Draft was held on May 8.

The NFL’s supplemental draft still hasn’t been set in stone, although a tentative date has been set for sometime in July. To be eligible for the supplemental draft, a player must meet a set of criteria, such as losing his eligibility or becoming academically ineligible, and send an application to the NFL’s league office.

Pryor is expected to begin exploring his options some time next week, though a deadline for the application for the supplemental draft hasn’t been set.

With the NFL lockout ongoing, it actually might behoove Pryor to get in some valuable coaching if he plans on being a quarterback at the next level. Or, if he decides to switch positions as some NFL scouts suggest *cough*Mel Kiper*cough*, it would give him time to learn the position.

For what it’s worth, here are some early odds as to what Pryor might choose to do, courtesy of Bodog.

  • Play in the NFL 10/11
  • Play in the CFL 5/4
