Earlier Wednesday, it was reported that former Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel has been hospitalized and is currently undergoing treatment for Guillain-Barré syndrome.
Wuerffel’s organization/passion, Desire Street Ministries, has released a statement confirming the initial reports, while also relaying that the initial prognosis for a full recovery looks very, very promising.
Here’s the statement from Wuerffel’s executive assistant, Sara Pace:Atlanta , GA — June 15, 2011 Desire Street Ministries announced today that Executive Director Danny Wuerffel has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), which he recently contracted as a result of a stomach virus.
Board chair, Luder Whitlock, reported that, “Fortunately, an early diagnosis identified the disease, permitting swift medical treatment. Consequently, his GBS specialist expects a full recovery. Meanwhile, Danny has asked me to express his appreciation for the prayers, love and support he has received during this time.”
