The 2011 edition of the Ball State Cardinals will have to make due without the services of an all-conference performer in the backfield, the school announced Tuesday.
In a release, first-year head coach Pete Lembo acknowledged that running back Eric Williams has decided to leave the program. The release states that Williams left for personal reasons, although it’s intimated that the change in coaching staff may have played a role in the decision.
“We wish Eric nothing but the best in his future pursuits both academically and athletically,” Lembo says. “Everyone handles change differently. We certainly respect Eric’s decision to look for a better fit elsewhere. We will continue to provide him with whatever assistance he needs.”
Lembo was hired last December to replace Stan Parrish, who was fired by the school in late November. There’s no word on where the Indianapolis native may transfer.
Last season, Williams led the Cardinals with 613 yards rushing and 5 rushing touchdowns, while also adding two receiving touchdowns as well. He was named second-team All-MAC as a sophomore.
