UNC receives Notice of Allegations

Exactly two weeks after getting their official Notice of Inquiry, the North Carolina football program is on the receiving end of yet another official notice from the NCAA.

And, unlike the first one, this one promises to heighten the anxiety level exponentially inside the UNC athletic department.

UNC announced Tuesday that they have received their Notice of Allegations from the NCAA, stemming from what’s been a nearly year-long investigation into the program.

The UNC football program has been the subject of an NCAA investigation into both multiple players receiving impermissible benefits as well as academic misconduct. A total of 14 players missed games in 2010 as a result of the scandal, with a total of seven players — including starters on both sides of the ball — missing the entire season.

UNC has 90 days to respond to the NCAA’s notice. After the school’s response, the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions will determine whether violations were committed and what the appropriate penalties will be -- if any.
