Earlier this month, it was reported that Corey Grant had decided to leave the Alabama football program.
As it turns out, the running back will not even have to leave the state to continue his football career.
According to AuburnSports.com, Grant has decided to take his talents about 200 miles or so southeast of Tuscaloosa and play for instate rival Auburn. And, apparently, Alabama was the right place/wrong time thing for the former four-star back.
“I think sometimes you go to a place at the wrong time,” Grant said. “Alabama is a great place. I learned a lot of things. I got better in a lot of areas I needed to improve on.
“I don’t leave Alabama with any hard feelings. I just felt like I would be a better fit at Auburn.”
So, what will Auburn be getting, besides a backup — at best — to Michael Dyer the next couple of years? Grant was the was the No. 5 all-purpose back in the country in 2010 according to Rivals.com.
It should also be noted that Grant plied his high school football wares in Opelika. And he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining once he sits out the 2011 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
does he need to sit out 2 years because he is transferring to another school within the conference, or is that only for certain conferences?
Best of luck, Corey. Hope things work out for you.
Roll Tide!
He doesn’t leave Bama with any hard feelings, but I would wager to guess that when they play, he will get his world rocked by some extra hard hits. You just don’t go to the most hated rival and not have a target on you.
Interesting that Saban would let Grant transfer to Auburn or any SEC school for that matter.
Good get for Auburn. Grant is talented. Ran the ball well in the Spring game.
