Rather, the Chicago Tribune reports, Illinois defensive tackle Chris Jones was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with aggravated battery following an incident in Champagne.
The alleged victims, a pair of 28- and 19-year-old males, told police they were attacked by Jones because of their “sexual orientation”. Jones claimed that the incident was in retaliation for a fight that had taken place a week earlier.
Neither of the alleged victims were hospitalized, although the police report noted that one man had noticeable swelling on the right side of his face while the other had a cut lip on the inside of his mouth.
Head coach Ron Zook is aware of the incident, and a school spokesperson told the Tribune that any discipline will be handled internally.
Jones is a three-star member of the Illini’s 2011 recruiting class.
